Arctic and sub-Arctic lake water ?2H and ?18O along a coastal-inland transect: Implications for interpreting water isotope proxy records

چکیده
High-latitude lakes are sensitive to climate change and store information about large-scale circulation changes catchment-integrated processes. Lakes mainly recharged by meteoric water, meaning that some lake sediment proxies may indirectly archive the stable isotopic composition of hydrogen (?2H) oxygen (?18O) past precipitation. Yet, despite similar precipitation input, within a region exhibit wide range values due varying influence inflow seasonality evaporation. Moreover, relative sensitivity each these controls vary through time, something is difficult account for. Here, we evaluate impact variable ?2H evaporation on water across northern Fennoscandia (Norway, Finland, Sweden). We measured ?18O 135 spanning from north Norwegian coast along 460 km transect Bothnian Bay, sampled 2018 2020. Our data show both coastal inland distillation during moisture transport, farther Atlantic Ocean additionally impacted estimated for evapo-concentrated (?2HI) using Bayesian method. Resampled had more depleted ?2HI in 2020 than 2019, indicating either was 2H-depleted or winter contributed compared 2019. suggest were response snow-rich winter, associated with extremely positive Arctic Oscillation (AO+) conditions increased supply North Atlantic. find evidence variability this reflects combination seasonal atmospheric changes, Careful consideration processes essential when making inferences based isotope proxies.

How energy and water availability constrain vegetation water-use along the North Australian Tropical Transect
Energy and water availability were identified as the first order controls of evapotranspiration(ET) in ecohyrodrology. With a ~1,000 km precipitation gradient and distinct wet-dry climate, the North Australian Tropical Transect (NATT) was well suited for evaluating how energy andwater availabilities constrain water use by vegetation, but has not been done yet. In this study,we addressed this que...
متن کاملArctic pathways of Pacific Water: Arctic Ocean Model Intercomparison experiments
Pacific Water (PW) enters the Arctic Ocean through Bering Strait and brings in heat, fresh water, and nutrients from the northern Bering Sea. The circulation of PW in the central Arctic Ocean is only partially understood due to the lack of observations. In this paper, pathways of PW are investigated using simulations with six state-of-the art regional and global Ocean General Circulation Models...
متن کاملsimulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water
abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
Optimizing irradiance estimates for coastal and inland water imaging spectroscopy
Next generation orbital imaging spectrometers, with advanced global remote sensing capabilities, propose to address outstanding ocean science questions related to coastal and inland water environments. These missions require highly accurate characterization of solar irradiance in the critical 380–600 nm spectral range. However, the irradiance in this spectral region is temporally variable and d...
متن کاملCombining Research and Education: Bioclimatic Zonation along a Canadian Arctic Transect
Scientists and students from five countries combined research and education in an investigation of bioclimatic zonation along a Canadian Arctic transect, from Amund Ringnes Island and Ellesmere Island in the north to the Daring Lake research camp at the southern edge of the tundra in Nunavut. We addressed three important needs in Arctic science: 1) to integrate education and research, 2) to pro...
